Garden House on Orcas Island
Hot Tub

Information on the hot tub? Hello?

Many guests are attracted to the ambiance of a hot tub. Rocket Science is not required to figure this out. The hot tub at the Garden House is big (it will easily accomodate four guests) and has the enviable attribute of an outside location. An attribute less frequently appreciated is its...ah...maturity; it has outlived its manufacturer. View from the hot tub Thus parts are not easily available, and, given the island location, even if they were available in Bellingham, there is always the random intersection of shipping time, weekend non-delivery, the occasional UPS strike, Postal Holidays, and Murphy.

Anti-entropic forces, in the form of a reasonably handy and attentive manager, (yours truly), attempt to thwart the chaos-inducing energies that attack all things, including this venerable old beast.

Consequently, the hot tub has a down time of less than a very few days a year (from January of 1997 to November 2006 it was zero, and then the post Thanksgiving Day Storm hit...), and, of course, those down days will necessarily fall on someone's watch.

So why are you telling me this?

The price of accomodations at the Garden House is set below market rates, and is specifically set so that there is no charge for using the hot tub. The idea here is that if you aren't paying for it, you will be less disappointed when it might not meet your performance expectations than if you are, or think you are, shelling out screaming eagles.

The short version of this is: if you must have a guaranteed working hot tub that will meet your (wildest?) expectations for bubbles, heat, privacy, romance and turbocharged rural excitement, don't choose the Garden House.

Hot tub temperature note:

In addition to the above comments, it appears that only a fraction of the Garden House guests actually use the hot tub. Consequently, in order to reduce the Garden House carbon footprint, the hot tub water temperature is lowered between guest visits. Please contact me a minimum of 24hrs prior to your arrival if you expect to use the hot tub; this will allow time to ensure that the hot tub water will reach normal operating temperature (104F).
